Greens have selected Dr Susan Board as their parliamentary candidate for East Worthing & Shoreham constituency.

Susan, pictured second from left with prospective Green candidates Cllr Ben Duncan (Brighton Kemptown), Caroline Lucas MEP (Brighton Pavilion) and Cllr Ian Davey (Hove), has lived locally for five years, with her teenage son.

She holds a PhD in Environmental Politics and lectures for the Open University.

She is passionate about the local community, chairing her local residents’ association and volunteers part time at the Information Shop.

Susan said, "I'm proud and honoured to have been selected to represent the Greens.

"East Worthing and Shoreham is a special place, but the other parties are failing to come up with credible solutions to our new social and environmental challenges.

"It is important that voters have an opportunity to support a candidate whose party is committed to peace, social justice and the environment."

Sussex Green Party Euro-MP Caroline Lucas, who is widely expected to become the first Green MP, in nearby Brighton Pavilion constituency, welcomed Susan’s candidacy:

"The Green message is spreading and the party is growing steadily.

"We've now got more than 100 councillors and polling data shows we're ready to elect our first MPs to Westminster as people are increasingly disillusioned with Labour's failure to tackle social injustice and see through the Tories' hollow pretence to take the environment seriously.

"I’m delighted to welcome Susan as a fellow candidate. Her dedication to the community and her commitment to a fairer, greener society are just what we need in parliament."
