Caroline Lucas visits residents at Brighton RSPCA April 2008

Staff and animals at Brighton's RSPCA animal rescue centre received a boost when Caroline Lucas MEP, an RSPCA vice-president, visited to hear about the centre’s work.

Dr Lucas (pictured left) met some of the cats and dogs waiting to be re-homed by the animal charity, and the staff and volunteers who give so much to make the centre a reality.

“Hundreds of cats and dogs are subject to horrific cruelty, abuse and neglect every year in Sussex,” she said.

“The lucky ones will find themselves at Braypool to be adopted by Brighton and Hove families and my heart is warmed by the efforts of the staff and volunteers who play such a key role in making this happen.

“In previous years the centre’s future has been called into question by development proposals on neighbouring land .

"I look forward to having discussions with centre staff about how best to ensure this vital service is recognised, preserved and protected,” Dr Lucas pledged.
