Brighton and Hove Green Party launches its local manifesto today (Friday 30 March) with a pledge to make the city a greener, cleaner, safer and fairer place in which to live.

The 24-page document sets out how the Greens will tackle the issues that matter to local people: from housing, health, education and crime to traffic, parking, waste, and the environment – all within a framework that is realistic and sustainable.

With a full slate of 54 candidates standing in Brighton and Hove, the Green Party is a serious contender to make a real difference in the forthcoming elections on 3 May.

Launching the local Green Party manifesto in Brighton today, Caroline Lucas MEP (pictured below), said, “Living here as if we mean to stay is the core of the Green vision. This manifesto outlines the way Green councillors will make this vision a reality in Brighton and Hove over the next four years.

“The core challenges Green councillors will help meet are to work towards providing decent housing, education, health and public services, and preserving our built and natural environment.”

Convenor of the Green city councillors, Keith Taylor, says, “Local people are getting increasingly frustrated by Labour’s tired old rhetoric about improving the quality of life in Brighton and Hove.

"It’s no use pretending to care about the environment by planting a few trees while endorsing the plans to expand Gatwick Airport and a toxic new incinerator. That’s what shows their true colours, and it certainly isn’t green.”
