Animal Rights Working Group

The group was formed in 2003, initially focussing on fact finding and deciding what campaigning to do within the Brighton area.
We meet occasionally in The George Pub (a vegan / veggie pub) in Trafalgar street - but are mainly involved in the following activities. If you wish to become involved please contact the person whose name is next to the activity.

Some recent achievements:
- We've met with the council environmental health officer in charge of Brighton’s three animal welfare officers
- Promoted and supported Viva’s March against factory farming
- Ran animal rights stalls in the London Road
- Monitored planning applications
- Are in dialogue with the local Universities, promoting non animal research
- Organised a picket, and tried to ban The Animal Planet road show last summer
- Supported the badger federation, who are defending the Saltdean badgers by attending the demonstrations and letter writing
- Written an Animal rights policy for our area
- Have successfully campaigned for animal welfare to be rewarded when the council buy in contracts for utilities e.g. cleaning products
- Monitored the sale of fur in shops
